Dear TYCL International Community,
I am writing to you today to express, irrefutably, that Black Lives Matter. The hundreds of years ongoing struggle against racial injustice have taken away countless lives, including the recent racial murder of George Floyd. Along with ongoing racial injustice, we are now instantaneously fighting a global pandemic that has amplified the structural inequalities, generational disparities, and inadequacies of our system.
The lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Sean Reed, Breonna Taylor, and countless others matter. We at TYCL International strongly condemn anti-Black racism in all its forms and we are committed to taking action against racism within the United States and beyond. TYCL will continue to support anti-racism movements in all possible ways including supporting with financial and non-financial resources. As an immediate action, TYCL International will be launching creative mental health support programs for BIPOC young people to strengthen their mental well-being as leaders and change-makers in the face of these dual crises of global pandemic and structural racism.
The TYCL International community is committed to be a candle of hopefulness in darkest times. In the United States and India, TYCL community members are working to fight structural inequalities and social injustices on the basis of race and caste through community-based youth-led initiatives. We continue to work to end racism and casteism across the globe.
Black Lives Matter. Today, every day, and everywhere for a safe and inclusive society for all.
In solidarity,
Siva Mathiyazhagan
Founder-Director of TYCL International
